‘Delicious’ and ‘Flight Food’ probably don’t go hand in hand. However, in proving that not all mid-air meals are in fact inedible is Air Asia which is now ready to serve connoisseurs its famed in-flight meals on ground! Yes, that’s right. Backed by popular demand, the Malaysian airlines has recently opened its very own Santan restaurant in its home country.

Located on the first floor of the Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, the restaurant serves popular in-flight meals with flavors inspired by cuisine from the Philippines, China, Vietnam, and Malaysia like nasi lemak, satay skewers, and beef rendang. The one-of-its-kind menu is created by a team of five chefs and culinary arts students and is specially designed to reflect the countries that are connected by the low budget airline.

Commenting on the ingenious venture, Catherine Goh, the General Manager of the restaurant said, “The opening of this flagship restaurant is the beginning of something great for the Santan and T&CO brands. We have seen a significant appetite for our in-flight menu offerings beyond our flights across the region and this is our answer to that demand,” She further added, “We are very proud to extend what started out as an in-flight menu into new markets and reiterate our support for local and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) producers [and] suppliers.”

The company aims at opening five Santan restaurants by the end of next year and many more in the decade to come. Fancy sampling flight food on ground?
