Johnnie Walker is an exceptional whiskey but a phenomenon on its own! And in proving so for the umpteenth time is Diageo with the introduction of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich. It is the fourth in the marquees Ghost and Rare series of bottlings and is just as luxe as its predecessors.

Launched as a tribute to the now-defunct Pittyvaich distillery on Speyside, the blended malt entails blends from two other closed distilleries, Port Dundas and Carsebridge, along with liquid from Speyside’s Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore, and Strathmill as well as Royal Lochnagar in the Highlands.

It is crafted by Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his whiskey makers and includes sweet; fruit notes of fresh apple gather with the autumnal flavors of Pittyvaich. The concoction is further rounded off with the subtle sweetness of honeycomb and softwood and aromas of dark fruit and berries from the rest of the spirits.

Commenting on it, Jim Beveridge, in a statement, said: “We have waited patiently for the perfect moment to showcase this rare gem of the whiskey world. Pittyvaich may only have thrived for a short period, but the whiskey laid down by this distillery is something unmistakable. Its distinct autumnal character has always intrigued us and fired our imagination to create something extraordinary that would pay tribute to the whiskey makers of this Speyside distillery.”

Remarking on it, Diageo Luxury Ambassador Ewan Morgan said, “Blue Label has always been about rarity and complexity. Only one in every 10,000 casks is specially selected to be included in the blend. Blue Label was originally inspired by Alexander Walker’s 1867 Old Highland Whiskey. It was at the forefront of an era when fewer casks were available, and quality cask selection was in its infancy.”

The 43.8%-ABV Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich will be available for $350 from November of this year.
